If your 1998 Ford F-250 has the factory 7-pole trailer connector at the bumper, then you should have the brake controller plug under the dash. The factory brake controller plug is located under the dash, near the center console. I have attached a photo of the vehicle side of an adapter. There are a few places that you can look for the connector that the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3035-P will install into. Unless your 1999 Ford F-150 was modified and the connector was removed you should be able to find it so that you can completely install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885.

On the truck, measure from the center of the forward most bolt that holds the tow hook to the truck out 5 inches. First, many brake controllers actually come with a universal harness with one end that plugs into the back of the controller and on the other end are just blunt cut wires, no plug. Some vehicles that can have a plug will have an optional harness, sold separately, that has a plug on each end.

I've found a wiring diagram for the # DW08771 Battery Isolator. Terminal 1 would connect to the positive battery terminal of the main battery. The original wire from the alternator to the main battery would be removed from the battery and installed on terminal 1. I would not recommend installing and removing the hitch repeatedly. It will be difficult to access the hardware each time and you also risk the chance of loosing the hardware.
